NUPTIALITY

NUPTIALITY
Nuptiality of Marriage does not affect the size of the population but it affects the structure of the population. The definition of marriage varies from culture to culture and from one place to the other. (Nuptiality simply refers to the frequency of incidence of marriage within a population).
Marriage is a union between a man and a woman as husband and wife. This definitions is in a place where monogamous is accepted and practice and homo sexual is rejected. In other word/place, it is a union between spouses.
Demographic types of Marriage
1.     TRADITIONAL/CULTURAL MARRIAGE: A bride in traditional marriage is exchanged with bride wealth which includes bride price and it varies from culture to culture also, who determine bride price is relative to culture. Also in some cultures the bride can be betroth (engaged to be married) even before she is born.
2.     WESTERN MARRIAGE: This involves exchange of vows and rings symbolizing an endless relationship; this type of marriage recommends only one wife and one husband at a time.

Factors Influencing the Choice of Bride in Traditional Marriage
Progression is one of the important factors in the choice of bride for example is a woman can bear children; there is every tendency for her to get married. Also, the family background is put into consideration. The level of literacy of the family is also considered and so on.

Factors Influencing the Choice of Bride in Modern Marriage
1.     COMPATIBILITY: Are the two of you compatible to each other? Level of tolerance, do you like his personality? Can you live with him the way he is? If you can tolerate each other 70% then the two are compatible. The relative level of tolerance is what is compatible; what bring about conflict is lack of compatibility.
2.     COMPLEMENTALITY: This is when one has the strength to complement the weakness of the other, not the two become weak on one thing at the same time; if one is high, and the other should lower his head.
The above two are the major factors to be considered but there are other factors which includes;
1.     Educational Level
2.     Socio-Economic Status which is measured by the person’s income, investment etc
3.     Religion
4.     Health Status of the partners
